Web: www.byways.org/browse/byways/2148/ Description:Byway features the highest concentration of snowcapped volcanoes and associated glaciers in the lower 48 states. Areas of interest include: Broken Top Mountainand The Three Sisters, along with their waterfalls, that tower above the route; Deschutes National Forest, which includes five wilderness areas, 157 lakes and reservoirs, and 1,400miles of trails; the Dee Wright Observatory, which offers panoramic views of the Cascade MountainRange as far north as Mount Hood; and the 2,638-mile Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which cuts across the byway in two places.
Legth: 82 miles. Start/Endpoint: From Sisters, this loop byway runs northwest along US 20, then west on SR 126 near Suttle Lake, then south on SR 126 to the junction with SR 242, then east onto SR242. The byway along SR 242 then passes through the Willamette and Deschutes National Forests and the Three Sisters Wilderness Area, then completes the full loop at Sisters. Time to Allow: 2 hours.
