McKeever arthrodesis

McKeever arthrodesis

A procedure of historic interest developed by Duncan McKeever in 1952 for hallux rigidus, severe hallux valgus and metatarsus primus adductus, which consisted of major bone resection at the head of the metatarsal to form a modified cone with concomitant reaming of the base of the proximal phalanx. A stainless steel screw and washer was inserted through the plantar aspect of the proximal phalanx, extending through nearly the entire length of the first metatarsal shaft.
