McKechnie, (William Boyd) Bill

(1886–1965) baseball manager; born in Wilkinsburg, Pa. During his 25-year career as manager (1915–46), mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, and Cincinnati Reds, he won four league pennants and two world championships. Nicknamed "Deacon," he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1962.
