A gene on chromosome 2q33.2 that encodes palmitoylated membrane protein 4, a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase homologs (MAGUK) family, which interacts with the cytoskeleton and regulates cell proliferation, signalling pathways and intracellular junctions. MPP4 has an N-terminal PDZ domain, a central src homology 3 region (SH3), and a C-terminal guanylate kinase-like (GUK) domain; it localises to the outer limiting membrane of the retina, where it is thought to play a role in photoreceptor polarity and organising specialised intercellular junctions.
