LBI

Abbrev. for long baseline interferometry. A technique of radio interferometry in which the antennas of an interferometer are connected by links such as microwave transponders rather than cables (see radio telescope). In this way the correlations can be done in real-time and the local oscillators at the antennas can maintain a constant phase relation. MERLIN is a long baseline interferometer. Compare VLBI.
