Local Mail Transfer Protocol

(messaging, protocol)(LMTP) A protocol designed as analternative to ESMTP for cases where the mail receiver doesnot manage a queue. LMTP is an application level protocolthat runs on top of TCP/IP. It was initially defined inRFC 2033, and uses (with a few changes) the syntax andsemantics of ESMTP. It should be used only by specificprior arrangement and configuration, and it must not be usedon TCP port 25 (the SMTP port).
