Makarov
(until 1946, Siritoru), a city; administrative center of Makarov Raion, Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the east coast of Sakhalin Island, on the Sea of Okhotsk. Railroad station on the Korsakov-Tymovskoe line. A paper-and-pulp mill and a timber procurement establishment are located there and coal is mined in the area. The city was named in honor of S. O. Makarov.

an urban-type settlement; center of Makarov Raion, Kiev Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, 20 km from the Borodianka railroad station (on the Kiev-Korosten’ line). It has a flax mill, a milk plant, a brickworks, and a food combine. There is also a medical school and a museum of revolutionary, combat, and labor glory.
