McDavid, Raven (Ioor), Jr.

(1911–84) linguist; born in Greenville, S.C. While teaching English at the University of Chicago, he edited several distinguished linguistic atlases. He and his wife, Virginia Glenn McDavid, advanced the scholarship on English language usage.
