Mnogogreshnyi, Dem’ian Ignatovich
Died no earlier than 1696. Hetman of the Left-bank Ukraine from 1668 to 1672.
A commoner, Mnogogreshnyi was an active participant in the war for the liberation of the Ukrainian people (1648–54). In 1649, holding the rank of esaul (captain), he signed the Treaty of Zborov. After he became hetman, he pursued a policy favorable to the affluent cossacks and participated in 1670 in suppressing the uprising of poor cossacks and peasants led by I. Dzikovskii. In 1672 he was accused of secret contacts with Turkey, arrested, and exiled to Irkutsk with his wife and children. He was released in 1688. He took monastic vows in 1696.
