Ostrogozhsk Sheep

 

a breed group of meat and wool sheep developed on the breeding farms of kolkhozes in Ostrogozhsk and Podgorenskii raions of Voronezh Oblast by crossing Mikhnovo ewes with Romney rams. The trunk is well formed for meat production. The rams weigh 90–105 kg, and the ewes 55–60 kg. The wool clip from rams is 5–6 kg, and from ewes 3.5–4 kg. The wool is homogeneous and crossbred, of staple structure and 48–56 quality, and 12–14 cm long. The yield of pure wool is 55–58 percent. Ostrogozhsk sheep are bred principally in Voronezh Oblast.
