Mozhaisk Reservoir

 

a reservoir formed in 1960–62 by a dam of the Mozhaisk hydroengineering complex in the upper course of the Moscow River, above the city of Mozhaisk in Moscow Oblast. Area, 31 sq km; volume, 0.24 cu km; length, 47 km; maximum width, 3.5 km; average depth, 6.5 m. The water level of the Mozhaisk Reservoir fluctuates by 13 m. The hydro-engineering complex includes a hydroelectric power plant. The reservoir was built to improve Moscow’s water supply and for long-term regulation of the Moscow River’s flow. It is a center of tourism and sport fishing.
