[‚mō·zəm′bēk ′kə·rənt] (oceanography) The portion of the South Equatorial Current that turns and flows along the coast of Africa in the Mozambique Channel, forming one of the western boundary currents in the Indian Ocean.

a warm current in the Mozambique Channel, in the western part of the Indian Ocean; it is a branch of the Southern Equatorial Current. The Mozambique Current flows southward along the shores of Africa at 1.8–2.8 km/hr (in the period from November through April). The average water temperature at the surface is 26°–28°C in February and 22°–25°C in August.
