moya-moya, Japanese, hazy, smoky Neurology An idiopathic condition named for the angiographic appearance of prominent collateral vessels of the basal ganglia, that accompany narrowed and distorted cerebral arteries with thin collateral vessels, which arise in a wispy, net-like fashion from the circle of Willis, with progressive occlusion Clinical Pts are in a 'fog', due to ischemia in young Pts, or subarachnoid hemorrhage in older Pts; most occur in Japanese as recurrent strokes in otherwise healthy ♀ children/adolescents, familial tendency, after a febrile illness; abrupt onset of hemiparesis, transient aphasia, convulsions, spontaneous resolution
