[¦lā·ərd ′käm‚pleks] (geology) An igneous rock body of large dimensions, 5-300 miles (8-480 kilometers) across and as much as 23,000 feet (7000 meters) thick, within which distinct subhorizontal stratification, or layering, is apparent and may be continuous over great distances, in some cases more than 60 miles (100 kilometers).
