Maizuru

(mī`zo͞oro͞o), city (1990 pop. 96,333), Kyoto prefecture, SW Honshu, Japan, on Maizuru Bay. It is an important port and naval base with the best natural harbor on the Japan Sea coast. The city has spinning mills and chemical, rolling stock, and glass industries.

It is also a railroad junction. Textiles, sheet glass, and machinery are produced. There are facilities for the servicing of railroad equipment.
