Lobashev, Vladimir Mikhailovich

Born July 29, 1934, in Leningrad. Soviet physicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1970.

Lobashev graduated from Leningrad State University in 1957. From 1957 to 1972 he worked at the Physicotechnical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Since 1972 he has been with the Institute of Nuclear Research of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal studies are in experimental nuclear physics. He has investigated the effects arising during beta decay of nuclei. He has also proposed a technique for measuring the low circular polarization of gamma quanta. The use of this technique in the study of the gamma radiation of nuclei has led to the discovery of the nonconservation of parity and to the proof of the existence of a weak interaction among nucleons in the nucleus.
