(both: nyĭbēt`däk), city (1989 pop. 89,100), W Turkmenistan, at the southern foot of the Greater Balkan range. On the Trans-Caspian RR, it is an industrial center of a region yielding oil and natural gas. The city was founded in 1933 and was called Nefte-Dag until the late 1930s.

Nebitdag

 

(also Neftedag), a mountain in the Turkmen SSR, southwest of the Bol’shoi Balkhan Range. Elevation, 39 m. Nebitdag is a brachyanticlinal (domed) fold composed of porous red Neogenic rocks with oil-bearing beds. Oil is extracted nearby.
