A severe, potentially life-threatening allergic response that occurs within seven days of treatment of microfilariasis with diethylcarbamazepine in patients with onchocerciasis. The reaction correlates with the intensity of infection.Clinical findings
Intense pruritic rash, fever, malaise, lymphadenopathy, eosinophilia, arthralgia, tachycardia, hypotension, oedema, abdominal pain.
