Born 1499 in Örebro; died Oct. 26, 1573, in Uppsala. Swedish Reformation figure. Brother of O. Petri.
Petri became the first Protestant archbishop in Sweden in 1531. He supervised the preparation of the first Swedish-language edition of the Bible, known as the Bible of Gustav I, which appeared in 1541. He developed a unified statute for the Swedish national church, which was adopted in 1572.
