Nile Grass

 

(Acroceras macrum), a perennial herbaceous plant of the family Gramineae. The rhizome is creeping, and the stem is up to 1 m high and leafy. The blades of the leaves, which are linear-lanceolate and have an almost cordate base, are pale green and pointy. There is a panicled inflorescence. The spikelets are biflorous, elongated, and acuminate. Nile grass grows in tropical Africa. It is cultivated in some areas as a high-yield pasture and hay plant.
