LMC X-3

A highly variable X-ray source in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Optical spectroscopy confirmed this to be an X-ray binary system with an orbital period of 1.7 days and a high mass function. Along with A0620-00 and Cygnus X-1, LMC X-3 is one of the best candidate sources for a galactic black hole.
