Mouselike Hamster
(Calomyscus bailwardi), a mammal of the family Cricetinae of the order Rodentia. The sandy yellow body is up to 8.5 cm long. The tail is longer that the body and is sparsely tufted at its tip, the hind legs are longer than the front ones, and there are no cheek pouches. These characteristics distinguish the mouselike hamster from other species of hamster encountered in the USSR. This hamster is found in Iran and in the mountains of southwestern Turkmenia and southern Transcaucasia.
