ABCC1

A gene on 16p13.1 that encodes a protein of the MRP subfamily of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which transport various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes, many of which are involved in multidrug resistance. ABCC1 is a transporter of multispecific organic anions, glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts; it mediates ATP-dependent transport of glutathione and glutathione conjugates, leukotriene C4, methotrexate, antivirals and other xenobiotics, and confers resistance to anticancer drugs.
