When an aircraft is disturbed in roll, the angle of attack of the down-going wing increases and that of the up-going wing decreases. This difference in lift tends to restore aircraft to its original position indicating its lateral stability.The stability of an airplane that occurs about the longitudinal axis. An aircraft is laterally stable in that when a slight roll takes place, the forces acting on the airplane tend to restore it to even keel (i.e., level flight) without any correction applied by the pilot.
