Omar Nelson BradleyBradley, Omar NelsonBorn Feb. 12, 1893, in Clark, Missouri. American General of the Army (1950). Bradley graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1915 and taught tactics in military schools. During World War II, in 1943, he was field aide to the supreme commander of the allied forces in North Africa; in the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns he commanded the II Corps. In 1944 he commanded the American First Army in the Normandy Campaign. From August 1944 he commanded the 12th Army Group in Europe. During 1947-49 he was chief of staff of the US Army, and from 1949 to 1953 he was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and of the Military Committee of NATO. He has been in retirement since August 1953. Bradley is the chairman and member of the board of directors of various industrial corporations. WORKSZapiski soldata. Moscow, 1957.
