Magnetoelastic Transducer
Magnetoelastic Transducer
(magnetostrictive transducer), a measuring instrument for converting mechanical forces (strains) or pressure into an electric signal. The operation of a magnetoelastic transducer is based on the relationship between the magnetic properties of some materials (for example, Permalloy and Invar) and mechanical stress.
The working element of a magnetoelastic transducer is a magnetic circuit, which carries one or more windings that are connected to a measuring bridge. The magnetic circuit of a magnetoelastic transducer is fastened to the surface of the part (or device) in the direction of the acting forces or stresses. Changes in the magnetic characteristics of the material of the magnetic circuit are reflected in changes in the inductance or relative inductance of the windings. Magnetoelastic transducers are best used for measurements of small deformations in solids (both constant and rapidly changing), as well as measurements of pressures of gases and liquids, when highly sensitive measurements are required at a relatively low accuracy.
