magnetic stereotaxis

A surgical procedure in which a magnetic probe towing a catheter is inserted into various tissues (e.g., the brain, now primarily in the heart) and positioned by superconducting magnets under NMR guidance. The technique is now primarily used for localising and ablating sites in the cardiac conduction pathway found responsible for arrhythmias. In the brain, compared to conventional stereotactic surgery, MS reduces operating time and tissue destruction.
