magnetic nanoparticles magnetic nanoparticles Particles of iron oxide coated with dextran to which specific antibodies will readily adhere. If such particles are injected into a person infected with the relevant virus they will large form clusters of nanoparticles and viruses. On MRI scanning the nanoparticles become magnetized and are detectable. Adenoviruses and herpes simplex viruses have been detected by this technique. It has also been used to demonstrate secondary spread to lymph nodes of prostate cancer. |
