Nikolai Nikolaevich Kaufman
Kaufman, Nikolai Nikolaevich
Born Feb. 8 (20), 1834, in Moscow; died there Dec. 15 (27), 1870. Russian botanist.
Kaufman graduated from Moscow University in 1856 and then he became a lecturer (1861), director of the botanical garden (1865), and professor (1866) at the university. He was the author of Moscow Flora (1866), one of the first original floral compilations in Russian. It greatly influenced the development of classification and geography of plants in Russia. Kaufman developed the doctrine of metamorphosis in plant morphology.
