Nikolai Nikolaevich Amelko

Amel’ko, Nikolai Nikolaevich

 

Born Nov. 9 (22), 1914, in Petrograd. Soviet admiral (1964); candidate of naval science. Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Amel’ko graduated from the M. V. Frunze Higher Naval School in 1936. He served on ships of the Baltic Fleet and fought in the Great Patriotic War. In 1956 he graduated from the Naval Academy and was appointed chief of staff, and in June 1962 he was appointed commander of the Pacific Fleet. Amel’ko has been deputy commander-in-chief of the navy since March 1969 and a candidate member of the CPSU Central Committee since 1966. He was a deputy to the Seventh Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War Second Class, the Order of Nakhimov Second Class, three Orders of the Red Star, and medals.
