Laspeyresiini

a tribe of moths of the family Tortricidae (typical tortricids). The wingspread is 8 to 24 mm, the fore wings are dark, usually with a light spot and shiny lines; the hind wings are of a lighter color. The larvae live in the fruits, seeds, bark, shoots, and roots of plants. They winter and pupate in cocoons in the plant tissues or in the ground litter. There are about 700 widely distributed species. They are most numerous in the forests of Europe and Asia. The USSR has more than 200 species, of which about 50 damage timber stands and agricultural crops, especially fruit trees. Harvest losses of fruits and seeds from Laspeyresiini often reach 50 percent.

The most destructive species are the codling moth, Laspeyresia funebrana, L. pyrivora, and the pea moth. Acorns are damaged by L. splendana. Grapholitha molesta, a dangerous quarantine pest, damages the fruits of peach, pear, plum, apple, quince, and cherry trees.
