Abbreviation in Biology

 

the shortening of individual development in organs or their parts. The term was introduced by B. S. Matveev in 1930; A. N. Severtsov called this phenomenon negative anabolism. Abbreviation occurs when the final formative states of ontogeny are dropped, leading to the underdevelopment or reduction of organs in descendants.
