Metropathy
Metropathy
a diseased state manifested in prolonged uterine bleeding without expressed changes in the woman’s sex organs. The bleeding usually occurs after delayed menstruation. Metropathy is regarded as a monophasic, pathologically pro-longed menstrual cycle, since with this disease there is no second phase, either in the ovary or in the uterus. There is only a first phase, a folliculin phase in the ovary and a proliferative stage in the uterus. It is observed most often during sexual maturation or the climacteric. Treatment consists of hormone therapy, and in severe cases, of blood transfusions and curettage of the uterine mucosa.
