Lithuanian Black and White Cattle

a breed of dairy and dairy-meat cattle. The Lithuanian Black and White was developed in the early 20th century by crossing local cattle with Ostfriesian, Swedish Black and White, Holstein-Friesian, and other breeds. The bulls weigh 850–1,000 kg, and cows, 500–550 kg. The average milk yield is 3,500–4,000 kg, and the largest yield is 12,550 kg. The fat content of the milk is 3.6–3.8 percent. The young fatten rapidly; by 15 months the bulls weigh 450 kg or more. The dressed yield is 58–60 percent. The breed is raised in the Lithuanian SSR. The purebred cattle are exported to other republics to improve local stock.
