Matsalu

a gulf of the Baltic Sea on the western coast of the Estonian SSR. Length, 21 km; average width, 4 km. It is shallow. The Kasari River empties into it. The shores are sandy and covered with reeds and rushes. Matsalu and its environs are a nesting place for a great variety of waterfowl.
