Literaturuli Sakartvelo

 

(Literary Georgia), a Soviet Georgian newspaper, the organ of the Writers’ Union of Georgia. Published in Tbilisi since November 1931. During 1931–34 it appeared every ten days under the title Saliterturo gazeti (Literary Newspaper); from late 1934 to 1936 it was called Literaturli gazeti and appeared every six days; from 1936 to 1943, when it was called Literaturuli Sakartvelo, it became a weekly newspaper. From October 1943 to February 1953 it was known as Literatura da khelovneba (Literature and Art); in February 1953 it became Literaturuli gazeti; in February 1963 it once more became Literaturuli Sakartvelo.

The newspaper deals with current literary developments and theoretical questions about the literature and artistic practices of Soviet writers, prints literary works and articles about the arts and sciences, and gives reports on literary and sociopolitical events in the USSR and abroad.
