Literaturna Ukraina

 

(Literary Ukraine), a Soviet Ukrainian newspaper and the organ of the Union of Writers of the Ukrainian SSR. Founded in March 1927 as Literaturna gazeta (Literary Newspaper), it was the first newspaper of its kind in the USSR. From 1941 to 1945 it was published as Literatura i mistetstvo (Literature and Art) in Voroshilovgrad, Ufa, Moscow, Kharkov, and Kiev. In April 1945 it resumed its former name, Literaturna gazeta, and in February 1962 it acquired its present name. At various times it was published twice a month, once every ten days, once every six days, and once a week; since January 1957 it has appeared twice a week. It covers the literary and sociopolitical life of the Ukraine, the other republics of the USSR, and foreign countries.
