Laptev Strait

(Dmitrii Laptev Strait), a strait between Bol’shoi Liakhov Island and the northern coast of mainland Asia (Yakut ASSR). It connects the Laptev Sea with the East Siberian Sea. Its width ranges from 50 to 63 km, and its depth from 10 to 14 m. It is icebound most of the year. The strait is named in honor of D. Ia. Laptev.
