Meter-Kilogram-Second System

 

(MKS system), a system of units for mechanical quantities in which the fundamental units are the meter, the kilogram (the unit of mass), and the second. It was introduced in the USSR by GOST (Ail-Union State Standard) 7664-55, “Mechanical Units,” and then was replaced by GOST 7664-61. It is also used in acoustics according to GOST 8849-58, “Acoustic Units.” The MKS system of units is an integral part of the International System of Units.
