Liquid-Manure Spreader

a trailer-type machine used to pump out liquid manure from tanks in barnyards and to transport it and distribute it evenly over a field. It is also used to transport liquid solutions and suspensions of toxic chemicals and herbicides, to prepare peat-manure and other composts, and to haul water and other liquid and semiliquid loads.

The principal units of the ZZhV-1.8 machine used in the USSR are a tank, a frame and undercarriage, an intake hose, a force-vacuum main, an ejector, and a trailer. The spreader is hooked up to a Belarus’ tractor. The tank is filled and emptied by the ejector using the rarefaction and high pressure created by the tractor’s engine. The capacity of the tank is 1,800 liters; the spraying zone is about 8.5 m wide; and the liquid is raised about 7 m from the intake hose. The machine is operated by the tractor driver. Soviet industry also produces liquid-manure spreaders that are mounted on the chassis of a motor vehicle and are driven by the vacuum and pressure created by the vehicle’s engine, as well as tank-type liquid-manure spreaders, which are single-axle tractor-drawn trailers with a tank, intake hose, force-vacuum main, and ejector.
