[′nü‚trän ‚kap·chər] (nuclear physics) A process in which the collision of a neutron with a nucleus results in the absorption of the neutron into the nucleus with the emission of one or more prompt gamma rays; in certain cases, beta decay or fission of the nucleus results. Also known as neutron absorption; neutron radiative capture.
