Landé Γ-permanence rule

[län′dā ¦gam·ə ′pər·mə·nəns ‚rül] (atomic physics) The rule that the sum of the shifts of energy levels produced by the spin-orbit interaction, over a series of states having the same spin and orbital angular momentum quantum numbers (or the same total angular momentum quantum numbers for individual electrons) but different total angular momenta, and having the same total magnetic quantum number, is independent of the strength of an applied magnetic field.
