Matematicheskii Sbornik

(Mathematical Collection), a Soviet scientific journal that publishes original scientific studies in different branches of mathematics. Published in Moscow, it was founded in 1866 by the Moscow Mathematical Society. It is the oldest mathematical journal currently being published in the USSR. From 1932 to 1935 it was the joint organ of the Moscow, Leningrad, and Kazan mathematical societies. From 1937 to 1948 it was the organ of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and since 1948, of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Moscow Mathematical Society.

At first, Matematicheskii sbornik was published using funds collected from members of the Moscow Mathematical Society. Owing to financial difficulties, the journal in some years appeared irregularly. It has been issued regularly since 1926. From 1926 to 1938 one volume was published annually, with four numbers before 1934 and with six numbers from 1935 to 1937. From 1938 to 1955 two volumes were published annually in three numbers each. Since 1956 three volumes have been published each year with four numbers each. Publication of Novaia seriia (New Series) was begun in 1936, and the volumes are numbered by double numbers, beginning with 1(43). Circulation, approximately 2,000 (1974).
