Abashidze, Leila Mikhailovna
Born Aug. 1, 1932, in Tbilisi. Soviet film actress. Became People’s Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1965.
Abashidze was graduated from the acting faculty of the Tbilisi Sh. Rustaveli Theater Institute. While still in school, she appeared as Keto in the 1941 film Kazhdana. A spirited actress, she plays in both comedy and drama and creates emotion-packed images. Among her best roles are Marine in The Dragonfly (1954), Lela in They’ve Come Down From the Mountains (1955), Lia in The Splinter (1957), Mañana in Our Yard (1957), Maiia in Maiia From Tskhneti (1960), Dzidziia in The Code of the Mountains (1965), and the actress in Encounter in the Mountains (1967). She was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
