Operational Rest

Operational Rest

a temporary lull in active combat by the combatants on a given front or theater of war.

An operational rest may take place between two successive offensive operations in order to replace lost personnel, lost weapons, and expended ammunition; regroup and concentrate troops; bring up rear services and deliver matériel; and improve the basing of aviation. Combatants usually try to shorten the operational rest so that the enemy is not able to bring up new forces for waging combat.
