lipoprotein-associated phospholipase 2 lipoprotein-associated phospholipase 2a protein associated with low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in human serum; expressed by macrophages and present in atherosclerotic lesions. Levels are elevated significantly in patients with coronary artery disease. Oxidized products of Lp-PLA2 are thought to be important factors in development of atherosclerosis because of their ability to attract macrophages and to lead to foam-cell formation. |
