They make up part of the content of domestic sewage. Night soil in the form of poudrette, obtained by processing with chlorine and subsequent drying, is a principal fertilizer for fodder crops, hemp, and potatoes; its use is prohibited for berry and vegetable crops. It is also used in the preparation of composts.
