[′nīt ‚skī ‚kam·rə] (optics) A simple camera mounted in a fixed direction to record trails of stars caused by the earth's rotation and the breaks in these trails caused by clouds, in order to determine the reduction, due to clouds, of the effective exposures of astronomical photographs.
