Mach disk Mach disk[′mäk ‚disk] (fluid mechanics) A structure visible on a schlieren photograph of a supersonic air jet exhausting from a nozzle at low pressure into higher-pressure air at rest; it is formed by the focusing and strengthening of oblique shock waves emanating from the edges of the nozzle as they approach the jet axis. |
