landing light landing light[′land·iŋ ‚līt] (aerospace engineering) One of the floodlights mounted on the leading edge of the wing and below the nose of the fuselage to enable an airplane to land at night. landing lightA high-intensity forward-facing spotlight that shines on the runway while coming in for a landing and the taxiway while taxiing. It may also be used as an anticollision and antibird beacon. Landing light(s) may be fitted onto the leading edges of the wings, on the nose undercarriage, or on the undersurface of the wings. There may be more than one light fitted onto an aircraft. Most landing lights are retractable. See aircraft external lights. |
